STUDENTS:

 National Honor Society members need to turn in the donor sheets today.           

There are only two 2017-2018 Yearbooks left. They are available first come, first serve in the office and are $80 each.

Beta Club members should check the schedule outside of room 141 to ensure they are attending practices for their group competitions.

Beginning Monday, November 5, 2018 there will be a Fall Community Education Drivers Education Class with Limited Enrollment. The fee is $500.00. 66 HOURS FOR ½ UNIT OF CREDIT YOUTH 15 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. Class begins MondayNovember 5 2018, 6:30 p.m. at the Poca High Driving Range. At least one parent must be present for the first class meeting. The completed Driver Education Application Form and payment must be received at Putnam County Schools, Community Education, 77 Courthouse Drive, Winfield, WV 25213 by Thursday, November 1, 2018

Make-up picture day is going to be October 24th. If you want a picture order form they are in the main office or outside of Rm 154.

Yearbooks for this year are still on sale with order forms from Mr. Willard and outside of Rm 154 or at yearbookforever.com

COUNSELORS CORNER:

Marshall University will be in the library during lunch on October 24th to do onsite applications. If any student is interested in applying, please stop by the main office and sign the sheet that will be on the front counter so your counselor may have your transcript printed in advance.

Any junior or senior interested in attending the CAMC Heath Care Showcase on October 30th at the Charleston Civic Center, please pick up a permission slip in the office. We will be leaving the school at 8:45 and we will return before lunch.   All completed permission slips should be turned in to the office no later than Friday October 19th.  We will be taking a max of two buses and the sign-ups are first come first serve.  If you have any questions please see your counselor.  

SPORTS:

Boys soccer Hurricane defeated Huntington 2-1 in the Section 2 Region 4 Championship game. Freshman Jake Bock scored off a Drake Lester assist. Senior Ryan Fisher had the game winner off an Isaiah Gillispie assist. Fisher’s goal came with 12 seconds remaining in the first sudden death period. Redskins now 18-2 move on to the Regional finals next week. 

Hurricane Girls' beat defending State Champions Cabell Midland 3-1. Goals were scored by Brooke Lucas, Bailey Fisher and Sydney Wheeler.

The cross country team competed in the AAA Region IV Championships yesterday in Mineral Wells.  The boys team were Regional Runners-up, losing by just 2 points to #1 Cabell Midland.  Wyatt Hanshaw was Individual Regional Champion winning in a time of 16:09.  Justin Belcher finished 4th, Bryer McPherson finished 9th and John Casey finished 10th earning All-Region honors.  Austin Casey, Allen Quinlan and Dawson Haddox rounded out the top 7 for the boys.

The girls team came in 4th place.  Dani Ray led the team finishing 7th overall which earned her All-Region honors and qualifies her for the State Meet individually.  The team of Dani Ray, Asha Bora, Julia Lacy, Olivia Gaines, Ada Thompson, Brogan McPherson and Rileigh Snavely narrowly missed qualifying for the State Meet.

The Cross Country State Championships are next Saturday at Cabell Midland.  The boys race at 1:00 and girls race at 1:45. The boys enter the state meet ranked #2.  Come out and support the cross country team next Saturday at Cabell Midland.

If you have signed up for Swim team, there is a paper in the office on the counter. You must get one so you will have everything you need before the first practice on Tuesday.

MEETINGS:

There will be a Beta club meeting on Friday, October 19th, 1st half of lunch. 

Writers Group will have a short meeting the first half of lunch in the library today.
