Candidate Bios

Jacob (J.T.) Cooper is the son of Harold and Theresa Cooper, their youngest of 6 sons.  His oldest brother Kyle is a football coach at Southern Methodist University, Cameron is an Assistant Vice President at Alliance Bernstein in Nashville, Zach is a contract negotiator for the US NAVY in Washington D.C., Matt is a Senior studying Broadcast Journalism at Syracuse University, and Lucas is a sophomore at Ohio Wesleyan, where he is a member of the      football team. The latest addition to the Cooper family is a 4-month old Silver Lab puppy named Cleo.

J.T. is involved in multiple clubs including; President of The   National Honor Society, President of Hurricane High’s DECA chapter, and Student Body Vice President. Additionally, he serves as the Vice President of Fuel Up to Play 60, and LINK Crew.  He has maintained a 4.15 GPA and will graduate with high honors. J.T. was a four-year member of the HHS football team serving as captain this past season and is also a returning member of the school’s championship baseball team.

In his free time, J.T. volunteers for the Special Olympics. He also enjoys hanging out with friends and family, playing all sports and eating.

J.T. plans to play football in college but is still undecided on where he will do so. He will major in Business Economics and upon graduation, he plans to attend law school. 

Olivia Hart is the daughter of Ron and Martina Hart. She has two older brothers, Vince and Wyatt Burgess, one younger sister, Isabella Hart, a 10th grader here at HHS, and a little girl, Penelope Camille Hart.

Olivia is co-captain of the varsity golf team that she has played on for four years, and she is also a 4-year member of the swim team. She is an active member of Student Council as Student Body Secretary, a member of Key Club, Mu Alpha Theta Vice President,  a member of National Honor Society, Fuel Up to Play 60, and she is Link Crew Commissioner. 

Olivia is a member of Ascension Catholic Church where she is a Sunday School teacher and a lector. She is also a member of the Callaway Junior Tour and the West Virginia Golf Association. In addition, she loves her job at Books and Brews on Main Street.

Olivia is a semi-finalist for the Yeager Scholarship and the Accelerated BS/MD program and plans to attend Marshall University where she will pursue a degree in either engineering or medicine.

Emily Marie Kemper is the daughter of Andie Kemper, Michael Kemper, and the stepdaughter of Kim Kemper. She has an older sister, Michelle, two older stepbrothers Adam and Ethan Lambert, and an older half-brother Trent Saunders. 
Emily has been a member of the Student Technology Leadership Program since January of 2018 as well as being a member of the HHS Girls’ Soccer Team during her 2018-19 senior year.  
Emily has dedicated a large portion of her free time through community service by giving over 120 hours to the schools in her community.  She has spent many of those hours assisting with the technology needs of teachers and staff right here at HHS.  She also  assists other schools such as West Teays where she volunteers by tutoring elementary school kids and at Scott Teays Elementary School where she has volunteered providing technology and other assistance as needed.  When Emily is not volunteering her personal time, she is involved in her hobbies, which include playing guitar and painting for hours on end. 
Emily plans to attend Marshall University to pursue a career in elementary education upon graduation. 

Miranda is the daughter of Sue and Rob Pate. She has two older brothers, Zach and Tyler. Zach plays football at West Virginia State University and Tyler is a pharmaceutical sales rep in Nashville, Tennessee.

Miranda is Fuel Up to Play 60 President, Key Club President,  Senior Class Vice President, MU Alpha Theta Secretary, International Club Secretary, and National Honor Society     Treasurer. She is also a four-year member of the Varsity Cheer team and a three-year member of the track team. Miranda enjoys working out, hanging out with family & friends, and playing with her dog Leo.

Miranda is the first and only National Ambassador from West Virginia for the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. She is also on the teen board for Lara’s Bridals and Formals, a senior rep for Joshua Sharp Photography, and attends the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Miranda plans to attend Marshall University, majoring in Biology and minoring in Health and Wellness. After graduation, she plans to go on to dental school with hopes of becoming a        pediatric dentist. 

Joseph Michael Muto III is the son of Mike and Bobbi Muto.  He has an older brother Nick who is a freshman at WVU and a younger sister Gianna who is a freshman here at Hurricane High School. He also has two four-legged brothers Zeke and Crosby.

Joseph is a four-year member of the Varsity Basketball team, a three-year member of the National Honor Society, a four-year member of Student Council, Treasurer of Fuel Up to Play 60 club, 2018 Mr. Redskin, and 4 year member of A Honor Roll.  

Joseph is an active member of Ascension Catholic Church of   Hurricane, volunteers with WV Special Olympics, the United Way of North Central WV, and several other community organizations.  

Joseph enjoys hanging out with his friends, golfing, and of course basketball. 

After graduation, Joseph will attend WVU where he has been   accepted into the Honors College, and will major in exercise physiology, with the goal of obtaining his doctorate in Physical Therapy.
